ABOUT
Who We Are
Beyond Baptism is a project of the Engaging Young Families Committee of the Diocese of Youngstown
Council for Catechesis. The Council for Catechesis is an advisory group for the Diocesan
Office of Faith Formation and Lay Ecclesial Ministry.
Our History
Inspired by the Diocese of Youngstown Pastoral Plan 2015, the Council for Catechesis commissioned the Engaging Young Families Committee to address the faith formation needs of young families.
Our Purpose
Parents and Parish Ministers face many challenges.
One of the more critical questions is how to continue contact between a young family and its parish church, once the family has had its child baptized. It is not unusual to celebrate a child’s first sacrament,
then find life filled with demands that fail to include church and sacrament and spiritual growth for the family! Often it seems the family and child go one way, and the church, the other. This website hopes to narrow this gap. We offer resources that will help a family stay close to its parish . We give suggestions for parish ministers to support busy parents who seek spiritual nourishment for themselves and ways to talk to their child about God and church and holiness. We try to give ways to bring God into daily life and ordinary everyday experiences. As we continue to search for resources and activities to renew our connections, we encourage you – parent and parish minister – to take time to browse through our offerings.
